By the way, did you guys know “Chibi Maruko-chan”?
見たことある？
Have you seen it?
タイトルに出てくるのは、主人公の名前
The title appears in the name of the main character
怠け者でお調子者の「まる子ちゃん」
“Maruko-chan” who is lazy and class clown
あ、「ちび」は、「背が低い人」や「子供」って意味ね！
Oh, and “chibi” means “short person” or “child”!
まる子ちゃんの家族は、怒ると怖いお母さん、まる子のように怠け者のお父さん、真面目なお姉ちゃん、 俳句が大好きなおじいちゃん、誰にでも優しいおばあちゃん、
Maruko’s family consists of her mother, who is scary when angry, her father, who is lazy like Maruko, her earnest sister, her grandfather, who loves haiku, and her grandmother, who is kind to everyone.
学校の友達も面白い人がたくさん！
Lots of her friends at school are funny too!
「ちびまる子ちゃん」は、そんな家族やたくさんの友達に囲まれて、過ごす日常が描かれているよ！
“Chibi Maruko-chan” depicts the daily life of a child surrounded by her family and many of her friends!
漫画は1986年から始まって、アニメは1990年から始まったんだって。
The manga started in 1986 and the anime in 1990.

日曜日の夜6時から「ちびまる子ちゃん」夜6時半から「サザエさん」
“Chibimaruko-chan” on Sunday nights at 6:00 p.m. and “Sazae-san” at 6:30 p.m.
これは日曜日の夜に皆がよく見るアニメです！
This is an anime that everyone watches a lot on Sunday nights!
いつか「サザエさん」の話もしたいから、それも楽しみにしててね～！
I’d love to talk about “Sazae-san” someday, so look forward to that too~!
昔の日本の生活について知りたいなら、「ちびまる子ちゃん」と「サザエさん」は、特におすすめ！
If you want to learn about life in old Japan, “Chibimaruko-chan” and “Sazae-san” are especially good!
これらのアニメの中に出てくる物は、今では、珍しい物がたくさんあるよ！
Now, a lot of the things in these animes is rare!
例えば、小学生が背負っているランドセル。
For example, “Randoseru” (school bags) “carried by elementary school students
昔は、性別によって色が決まっていたんだよ！
In the old days, the color was decided by gender!
女の子は、赤色のランドセル。男の子は、黒色のランドセル。
Girls’ school bags are red. Boys’ school bags are black.
だけど、最近はとてもたくさんの色のランドセルが使われてるんだって！
However, there are so many colored school bags used these days!
黄色。ピンク色。青色。水色。緑色。など
Yellow. Pink. Blue. Light blue. Green. etc.
アニメとコラボして、「鬼滅の刃」のランドセルも！
And in collaboration with the anime, the “Demon slayer” randoseru!
水の呼吸！弐ノ型！水車！
Water Breathing! Type 2! Waterwheel!
かっこいい！欲しい！今から小学生に戻れるかな？
Cool! I want one! Can I return to elementary school from now on?
なんて冗談は、置いといて。
What a joke, let’s leave it at that.
このランドセルは、小学校1年生～6年生まで使うから、6年生になる頃には体に対してランドセルがすごい小さいの！
This school bag is used from the 1st grade to the 6th grade of elementary school, so by the time I am in the 6th grade, the school bag is very small for my body!
しかも、ボロボロｗｗｗ
And it is tattered lol
でも、たくさんの思い出が詰まったランドセル。
But a school bag filled with many memories.
卒業式の日に皆からのメッセージをランドセルに直接ペンで書いて貰ったのが良い思い出だなぁ～
I have fond memories of having everyone’s message written in pen directly on my school bag on graduation day.

Well, I don’t know where that school bag is at home anymore lmao

ちなみに！ランドセルが一番似合うと思うキャラクターは、「のんのんびより」のれんげちゃんかな！
as a side note! The character that I think suits the school bag best is Renge-chan from “Non Non Biyori”!

次は、まる子ちゃんの家にある「電話」
Next, the “phone” in Maruko’s house
あれは、すごい昔に使われてた「黒電話」
That’s a “black phone (rotary dial phone)” that was used a long time ago.
今じゃ、スマホが当たり前の時代にまだ黒電話を使っているアニメはなかなか無いよ…
Nowadays, it’s hard to find an anime that still uses a rotary dial phone when smartphones are the norm…
と思って、調べてみたら結構ありましたｗ
So I looked into it and found quite a few.
「サマーウォーズ」「らき☆すた」(ep9) 「夏目友人帳 陸」(ep3) 「ばらかもん」 (ep4) など
「Summer Wars」「Lucky☆Star」「Natsume’s Book of Friends Six」「Barakamon」
このアニメ達もすごい面白いから絶対見てね！
These animes are also very fun so be sure to watch them!
あ、もし日本に来て、「スマホが使えない！助けて！日本の友達に電話したい！」ってなった時
Oh, if you come to Japan, “I can’t use my smartphone! Help me! I want to call my Japanese friends!” when this happens
「公衆電話」を使ってみてね！
Try using a “pay phone!”
日本の公衆電話は、黄緑色！
Japanese pay phones are light green!
そして、警察は「110」番、海上保安は「118」番、消防は「119」番ね！
And for police, dial 110, for coast guard, dial 118, and for firefighters, dial 119!
これ重要！

I said twice because it’s important!
他にも便利な番号が色々あるけど、これはまた今度話すね！
There are many other useful numbers, but I’ll talk about them later.
それにしても

最近は「黒電話」は全く見たことないなぁ…
I haven’t seen any “black phone (rotary dial phone)” at all lately…
「ちびまる子ちゃん」の話の中にも出てくる駄菓子屋さん
Dagashiya that appears in the story of “Chibi Maruko-chan”
ああいうお店なら、まだ「黒電話」あるかもしれない…！
A store like that might still have a “black phone(rotary dial phone)”…!
ちなみに「駄菓子屋」っていうのは、子供達がお菓子とかおもちゃとかを買うためのお店だよ！
By the way, “Dagashiya” is a shop for children to buy sweets and toys!
安くて美味しい駄菓子がたーーーくさんあるの！
There are many cheap and delicious sweets!
で、学校の行事で遠足に行く前日に、友達と一緒に駄菓子屋さんに行って300円以内でお菓子を買うんだよ！
So, the day before we go on a field trip for a school event, my friends and I go to dagashiya and buy sweets for less than 300 yen!
有名な駄菓子だと、色んな味がある「うまい棒」とか米のお菓子の「ポン菓子」とかかな？
Famous dagashi include “Umaibo,” which comes in a variety of flavors, and “Pongashi(Puffed grains),” which is a rice snack.
もっと駄菓子について知りたいなら「だがしかし」っていう素晴らしいアニメがあるから見てみてね！
If you want to know more about dagashi, there’s a great anime called “Dagashi Kashi” that you should check out!
一期と二期があって、日本で有名な駄菓子がたくさん出て来るよ！
There will be one and two seasons, and lots of those famous Japanese dagashi!
駄菓子は、日本のお土産としても大人気！
Dagashi is a very popular souvenir from Japan!
